The 7 habits of Highly Effective People

by Stephen R. Covey

384 pages

Price: $9.57

Definitely a must for anyone wanting to get more out of life, career or business.

First published in 1990, Covey updated his classic in 2004. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People remains as motivating today as it was when it first came out.

There's nothing simple about his approach to becoming an effective person. The first three habits alone--which have to do with personal responsibility, leadership, and self-management--could take years to master.

Joan Price, a reviewer at Amazon, warns, “This isn't a quick-tips-start-tomorrow kind of book. The concepts are sometimes intricate, and you'll want to study this book, not skim it. When you finish, you'll probably have Post-it notes or hand-written annotations in every chapter, and you'll feel like you've taken a powerful seminar.”

I find myself referring to it again and again, especially when I find myself in the “react mode” scattering my attention and resources—a common complaint of internet marketers.

The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People is a comprehensive program based on developing an awareness of how perceptions and assumptions hinder success---in business as well as personal relationships. Here's an approach that will help broaden your way of thinking and lead to greater opportunities and effective problem solving.

• Be Pro-Active: Take the initiative and the responsibility to make things happen.

• Begin With an End in Mind: Start with a clear destination to understand where you are now, where you're going and what you value most.

• Put First Things First: Manage yourself. Organize and execute around priorities.

• Think Win/Win: See life as a cooperative, not a comprehensive arena where success is not achieved at the expense or exclusion of the success of others.

• Seek First to Understand: Understand then be understood to build the skills of empathetic listening that inspires openness and trust.

• Synergize: Apply the principles of cooperative creativity and value differences.

• Renewal: Preserving and enhancing your greatest asset, yourself, by renewing the physical, spiritual, mental and social/emotional dimensions of your nature.

Stephen R. Covey remains a respected motivator in the business world today. Learn to use his 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People--and see how they can change your life.

If I were ordering this today while still balancing a work life with my business life, I might opt for the audio cassette version to listen to during my commute, although I love being able to pick up the book and find specific pointers to put into action.

Look at other great titles.
