Business Mentors

No single person has all the necessary skills to formulate, build and operate a business.

While there are plenty of online training programs to teach you what you don’t know, not all are free. And trying to include every single detail about a specific area of business in a class setting is not practical. Advanced students would soon grow frustrated sifting through the volumes it would require to include all information while trying to find that one nugget they need.

The needs of every business vary according to its niche—what applies to a travel site would not translate well to an insurance site. Thus, classes tend to be homogenized and non-specific.

The ideal answer is finding a business mentor in your field—one who has performed the very task you are trying to accomplish.

How much would that kind of expert guidance be worth to you?

I can think of several classes underway as I write this that cost $500 to $1000. Students are in a group with literally hundreds of others. To get private business mentoring for guidance in specific areas from any of these teachers would cost you $3000 to $5000 an hour!

Connect with your expert business mentor without paying a dime!

Probably the best known business mentoring organizations is Score.org Visit their website to search for Score counselors with expertise matching your needs and pose questions to that counselor via email. Score is a service of the Small Business Administration.

Ideacrossing.org started out as a resource to put businesses and investors together, but has expanded to include mentoring.

Imantri's mentors offer a broad range of advice from working mothers to sales and marketing strategies.

MicroMentor
has been written up in the Wall Street Journal.

My Yahoo! and other social sites allow you to join or create groups of like-minded business contacts, but there is no guarantee you will get an answer to your question or even if the answer is from an expert.
